Abstract

NHS staff from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds are subjected to systemic race discrimination. Such discrimination impacts adversely on patient care. Bullying of NHS staff by colleagues and managers has increased in recent years, disproportionately affecting BME staff. The combination of race discrimination and bullying is a particular challenge to patient care and safety requiring greater attention.
